High Glucose Levels Causes
Are you bothered about your high glucose levels in the morning? If your answer is yes then you must read on to find the simplest solution of this problem. The most unmanageable part of high glucose level arises in the morning and the reason behind this is not that it is impossible to control it. Rather the problem is that most of us are unable to understand the basic cause behind these high levels. So here we’ll have a deeper insight about the causes of high levels of glucose specifically in the morning.
Cause number 1
When a person is sleeping the level of blood glucose may start to drop because of the insulin injection the person injects during the day. The hormones that are responsible for increasing the blood sugar level start to play the role. This results is an increase in high glucose level. This is termed Somogyi effect. It is named after the name of the doctor who first explained this behavior of glucose levels. During some mornings the level of blood sugar may be low if it is unable to stimulate the secretion of hormones; however in some other mornings it will be high. If the person is unable to understand the underlying cause he may increase the dose of his insulin instead of decreasing it. So before adjusting the dose of insulin it is advisable to perform a blood test in the midnight. If the level of sugar is too low, then it means that you are experiencing Somogyi effect. It is better to decrease instead of increasing the dose of long-acting insulin you normally take at your be
dtime.
Cause number 2
Another phenomenon termed Dawn is caused because of secretion of excessive growth hormones in the night time; these result in increasing the glucose level in the morning. If the blood glucose levels in the morning are consistently high then increasing the dose of night-time insulin can properly take care of this.
Cause number 3
Another possible cause of high glucose levels in the morning is that type of insulin being used is not working long enough so it can keep the levels of blood sugar from rising. The older type of insulin like NPH is the prime example of such types of insulin.
